Things have definitely taken a turn for the cooler, something I properly noticed for the first time today. I was glad for my wind beating high-vis on the way in to the airfield as it took the edge off cycling in the cold. Cycling in is certainly not as appetising as it was in June/July and with the trees giving Southern Rail yet another excuse to not turn up, the countryside is beginning to look quite wintry and bare making the cold feel that little bit worse.

We had a fairly busy day today, with the highest number of visitors in a while, although a lot of movements were made by resident aircraft doing circuits. We also had some motoring royalty grace the runway: starting with a Le Mans LMP3 car, then reaching an Aston Martin of the loud and pretty variety, culminating in the 1980s motoring icon that is the Ferrari F40. Annoyingly my camera’s glass seemed to miss their presence, and as a lover of cars as well as aircraft, I am writing this kicking myself for not taking any photos!

The aircraft that are listed below are quite definitely not an exhaustive list, as we had around 18 visitors, only I have not photographed them all and some of my photographs were truly appalling as today’s poor light gave me much (as the title suggests) panning practice. The good thing, however, about panning shots like today’s is that when you get them right, generally you get them really right! Whilst today, I got some true shockers, I also got some lovely shots and may have improved my patience ever so slightly!

These are the aircraft I photographed [well]:
